This may seem a bit confusing, Decorator. Designer. What is the difference, right? Well there is a difference, but very few people know what it is. Most people use these names interchangeably. Some will tell you that one is better than others but it really comes down to what you do with your business and what kind of designer you want to be? How soon could you start and how much time you want to invest in this new career for you?

Basic definition of a designer is a person who has a university degree in interior design from an accredited school and passed the NCIDQ exam as an aside or a member of the American Society of Interior Designers. It's like passing the bar exam interior designers, and it is necessary if you wish to be licensed in your state. You may also need to work for several years devoted certified designer, before you can even take the test. Wow, it seems like tons of work!

This may be because most of the designers, including myself at times becomes very protective of the title. I thought, 'Hey, I busted my hump to four years in school, and many years worked in this area designer. I deserve this title! Ok, maybe we have a chip on our shoulder, I admit it. One interesting thing I've learned is if you plan on working in the architectural firm, or a purely commercial design, you do not really need for yourself all the time, effort and money.

I understand its significance. If you wish to recommend to the client to move a wall or structural changes, you must be educated on the latest building codes, fire and structural physics building. There are serious obligation, if you make a proposal that is dangerous or harmful effects. If it is a type designer that you want to be, so the school route for you. If you really want to be seen as a technical "designer" one day, you can use your work to your 'apprentice' demands and go back to school.
